Invisalign is a popular alternative to traditional orthodontic braces. Invisalign is a digitally designed dental aligner system that can correct a variety of dental orthodontic issues that involve the alignment of the teeth or jaw. The result of state-of-the-art technology, it has been evolving and improving over the last twenty years. Invisalign is a wonderful option for many alignment issues, as well as gaps between teeth, overbites, and crowding. Invisalign will resolve many of the same issues that traditional braces have been used to correct.

The entire team at INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA shares an office goal. What is the Difference between the Invisalign System and Traditional Braces?

Both traditional braces and Invisalign perform the same key functions, but there are some big differences between them. Each method has its advantages, and disadvantages. Traditional braces can still be used to treat more severe alignment issues that Invisalign might not be able to correct. The cost of braces is usually less than that of Invisalign, depending on the amount of correction that needs to be done.

The materials used for the two methods is the major difference between traditional braces and Invisalign. The traditional braces are made from metal or enamel, while Invisalign is made totally with plastic. Because of the wires and bands used for traditional braces, if you are active physically you will always run the risk of an injury to your cheeks from the appliance. This can be uncomfortable and can usually only be treated by visiting INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA. It is also important to realize that the braces are fixed and not removeable without our help. Because of this simple fact, they can also be difficult to clean, and certainly can be a nuisance.

The Many Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign offers a similar treatment objective without the hassle that comes with traditional braces. Because the trays are created from clear plastic, they are far more comfortable to wear. There are no wires or bands attached to your teeth to worry about. This dramatically lowers your risk of injury to your cheeks, your tongue, and your mouth overall.

In addition to being more comfortable, the Invisalign braces are totally removeable. Now it is easier to keep your mouth, teeth, and gums thoroughly clean. It means that you can remove them while participating in sporting activities, or during another activity that may require a mouth guard. You can remove Invisalign while eating, allowing you to bite, chew, and enjoy your meal without having to worry about food getting stuck in your braces.

You might prefer the Invisalign system because they are clear, which makes them difficult to notice. This cosmetic difference can be a major factor if you would like to repair the imperfections of your teeth, but also do not want to have metal pieces attached to your teeth. Due to the aesthetic appeal, durability and comfort, many people prefer Invisalign over traditional braces.

RESTORATIVE
DENTISTRY

Even with the best of diligence to maintain your oral health things don’t go as planned. Once in a while, and you might find that your teeth need to be restored or replaced. Missing, cracked, damaged, or even decayed teeth will dull your smile. Did you know it can also affect your oral health? At Inspire Dental of Alexandria we offer restorative dentistry to ensure that your teeth and oral health are back to their former state.

COMSETIC
DENTISTRY

It is important to feel confident in your smile, because being confident in your smile means being confident in yourself. Despite this, many people walk around every day, resigned to the fact that their smile is what it is and there is really nothing they can do to change it. But what if that was not the case? What if improving the aesthetic appearance and/or functionality of your smile was easier than you thought?

IMPLANT
DENTISTRY

Almost 50 million Americans experience tooth-loss every year. Dental bridges have traditionally been the best option if you are in this situation. However, there have been continual technological advancements regarding different types of dental implants. Dental implants are becoming both a common and popular procedure to restore a missing tooth or teeth.

The Invisalign Procedure

The process of getting Invisalign braces begins with a consultation at INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA because we specialize in the placement of these corrective braces. During this consultation, we begin by taking digital images of your teeth and your mouth. These images will help us determine the correct treatment plan for your individual needs. Once the right treatment plan of action is agreed upon by us together, we will introduce the amazing technology. A 3D CAD/CAM system uses these digital images to design a series of plastic trays that methodically push or pull your teeth, just like traditional braces. We can also use this technology to create and show you a finished image of our goal before we even begin.

Based on your personalized treatment plan and the desired correction, you will be given a series of additional trays that are designed to be changed out and replaced every two weeks. Each tray will move a tooth or teeth .25 millimeters at a time. Slow and deliberate movement without the discomfort of metal braces. We will also set appointments for every two months so we can track and make sure the alignment is going according to our plan.

It is imperative, to achieve the desired results of the system, that you wear your aligners at least 20-22 hours a day. They are removable, but this benefit cannot be abused. You need to monitor the time they are out of your mouth or you are simply extending the duration of the entire program.

Oral Health with Aligners

It is also necessary to understand that wearing your new aligners does not directly help to improve your oral health. In fact, it is easier for you to continue to brush, floss, and rinse out your mouth at least twice a day without traditional braces on your teeth. You will also need to take care of your aligners by keeping them clean. This means rinsing them every night and brushing them lightly with your toothbrush. Straightening crooked teeth, adjusting your bite, and filling unwanted gaps can be easy with the help of Invisalign braces if you continue to take care of your teeth, your gums, and your aligners.

WHAT OUR DENTAL PATIENTS SAY

5 star

My family has been seeing Dr. White through more than a decade of teeth cleanings, tooth injuries, teeth grinding, cavities, caps, root canal... you name it. The office is 30 minutes away but we wouldn't consider another dentist office. It's not just that Dr. White is a great professional, it's that he and his family run a great office. Scheduling, insurance, hygienists, hours -- everything about interacting with them is first rate.Everybody is knowledgeable, thorough, and kind. They take major insurance, and have even given me advice on which options to select. ...and Dr. White is a big Nats fan, which is a bonus in my book any day.
