Full and Partial Dentures

in Alexandria, VA

Dentures are dental restorative appliances that can replace your missing teeth. This tooth replacement option is customizable and can be designed to replicate your natural teeth. They are not attached to your mouth, so they can be easily removed when necessary. This allows you to remove your dentures for cleaning, and when you go to bed at night.

The entire team at INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA shares an office goal. With over three decades of experience, we pride ourselves in being old school when it comes to respecting you and your family and giving you the treatment that we would wish to receive ourselves. Every single patient receives the quality care they deserve. This is the way to earn your trust and satisfaction. Our team is focused on our collaborative efforts to promote oral health by practicing prevention, wellness, enhancement, and renewing rejuvenation. Visit us at 4660 Kenmore Ave., #320, Alexandria, VA 22304 or give us a call today at 703-751-7600 to schedule your appointment to see if you might benefit from full or partial dentures.

As we age, our teeth and gums age with us. In your later years you could lose your teeth. Even if you are younger, you could lose your teeth from an accident, or poor oral hygiene. There is a solution for replacing your missing teeth, even if all of them are missing. This option is full and partial dentures.

Are You a Possible Candidate for Dentures?

If you are experiencing any of the following situations you might be a candidate for a denture treatment:

  • Either missing the majority or all your natural teeth.
  • Experiencing severe tooth decay that will require multiple extractions.
  • The lack of jawbone mass and density for dental implants.
  • Your gums are receding due to aging or disease.

The Different Types of Dentures

You do not have to be missing all your teeth to enjoy the benefits of dentures. There are several types of dentures available if you are wanting replacement options for missing teeth in multiple stages of treatment:

  • Full Sets: When people think of dentures, they are usually referring to a complete full set. If you receive a full set of dentures, you are missing all your teeth in one arch, requiring a full mouth of replacement teeth to restore your healthy smile.
  • Partial Sets: If you still have some healthy natural teeth or are considering dental implants in your near future, you can receive a partial set of dentures. These are made to sit on your gums next to your existing teeth and can be adjusted and removed as dental implants are added.

Even with the best of diligence to maintain your oral health things don’t go as planned. Once in a while, and you might find that your teeth need to be restored or replaced. Missing, cracked, damaged, or even decayed teeth will dull your smile. Did you know it can also affect your oral health? At Inspire Dental of Alexandria we offer restorative dentistry to ensure that your teeth and oral health are back to their former state.

It is important to feel confident in your smile, because being confident in your smile means being confident in yourself. Despite this, many people walk around every day, resigned to the fact that their smile is what it is and there is really nothing they can do to change it. But what if that was not the case? What if improving the aesthetic appearance and/or functionality of your smile was easier than you thought?

Almost 50 million Americans experience tooth-loss every year. Dental bridges have traditionally been the best option if you are in this situation. However, there have been continual technological advancements regarding different types of dental implants. Dental implants are becoming both a common and popular procedure to restore a missing tooth or teeth.

The Procedure of Placing Dentures

When you and INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA have determined dentures to be the best treatment to restore your smile, there are several steps necessary to create the final product. The type and style of dentures desired for your treatment will influence the duration of the process, but for traditional full and partial dentures you can usually expect these following steps.

  • Making a Dental Impression- To ensure your dentures fit comfortably and securely on your gums, INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA will take an impression of your remaining teeth and gums to help create your new appliance. If you need extractions of decayed or damaged teeth, we will wait to take these impressions until your gums are healed to reduce the risk of loose-fitting dentures due to gum swelling.
  • A Set of Wax Rims- To measure the alignment of your bite, we will use a set of wax rims. When placing the rims in your mouth, we can gauge how the dentures will need to be formed to achieve a healthy bite once they are finally placed.
  • Customizing Your Artificial Teeth- At one of your initial appointments, INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA will allow you to customize your dentures. By choosing the color, size, and shape, of the teeth to be used, you can achieve the exact look you have always wanted for your smile. After getting all the necessary measurements and details to create your dentures, we will send this information to the dental lab to fabricate your set of full or partial dentures.
  • A Trial Fit- To help you get adjusted to your new dentures, we will create a plastic and wax mock-up set to give you an idea of how they will look and feel. This trial also helps us make small adjustments needed to the fit of the dentures before creating the final set.
  • Your Final Fitting- After the mock-up set has been approved, the dental lab will create the final full or partial denture set for your treatment. You will return to INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA for your final fitting to make any last-minute adjustments needed before leaving with your new smile. The final set will be constructed using porcelain crowns and a strong acrylic base. We want your dentures to feel comfortable and secure before leaving this appointment to prevent any discomfort.
  • A Check-Up Appointment- A check-up appointment might be beneficial if you feel uncomfortable with the fit of your dentures. Tight or loose-fitting dentures can cause gum sores, discouraging you from wanting to wear them daily as needed. Making an appointment with INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA at the first sign of a problem is essential to avoid discomfort and help your mouth get used to the dentures quicker.

5 star

My family has been seeing Dr. White through more than a decade of teeth cleanings, tooth injuries, teeth grinding, cavities, caps, root canal... you name it. The office is 30 minutes away but we wouldn't consider another dentist office. It's not just that Dr. White is a great professional, it's that he and his family run a great office. Scheduling, insurance, hygienists, hours -- everything about interacting with them is first rate.Everybody is knowledgeable, thorough, and kind. They take major insurance, and have even given me advice on which options to select. ...and Dr. White is a big Nats fan, which is a bonus in my book any day.

Proper Care for Your Dentures

Because your dentures are not surgically placed into your mouth, there is minimal discomfort expected with a proper fit. There are multiple adhesive products available for keeping dentures tightly in place. If you are experiencing loose-fitting dentures that are causing sores, you need to see us for a small adjustment.

You should wear your dentures during waking hours, and then remove them at night for proper cleaning. You will brush them, brush your gums, and then soak them overnight. You may find the hardest adjustment when starting to wear your dentures is wearing them every day. It is important to be patient and to remember your dentures will feel more natural the more they are worn daily.
