Full Mouth Dental Implants

in Alexandria, VA

If all your teeth are missing, an implant-supported full bridge or full denture is a good restoration option. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root anchored by a small post made of titanium. It is surgically placed in your jawbone and then an artificial crown, a dental bridge or a denture is attached. This post delivers stability and support to your restoration.

The entire team at INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA shares an office goal. With over three decades of experience, we pride ourselves in being old school when it comes to respecting you and your family and giving you the treatment that we would wish to receive ourselves. Every single patient receives the quality care they deserve. This is the way to earn your trust and satisfaction. Our team is focused on our collaborative efforts to promote oral health by practicing prevention, wellness, enhancement, and renewing rejuvenation. Visit us at 4660 Kenmore Ave., #320, Alexandria, VA 22304 or give us a call today at 703-751-7600 to schedule your appointment to see if you might benefit from full mouth dental implants.

If you are missing an entire arch of teeth, you have the chance to start fresh with a full-arch restoration. There are other options for replacing an entire row of teeth such as single implants and traditional dentures, but this is a treatment that is more affordable, quick, and convenient.

Dentures, and Implants, A Terrific Combination

Traditional dentures can often be inconvenient, uncomfortable, and unstable. Dental implants are an outstanding choice for single tooth replacements, but for a full arch, they will be expensive and take quite some time for completion. Now technology has put these two treatments together creating a solution that works for nearly everyone: implant-supported overdentures. For this treatment, only four dental implants are needed to be placed in the jawbone and a then a full dental bridge will attach to them, giving you a stable, full row of teeth quickly and easily.

Benefits with Full Mouth Dental Implants

Dental implants deliver several advantages. Not only do they look and function like your natural teeth, but implant-supported full bridges or dentures also have a longer life expectancy. Full mouth dental implants are more comfortable and stable than traditional dentures, allowing for more natural biting and chewing capacity. The posts act as roots, delivering pressure sensations and even temperature changes.

By acting as your natural roots, your jawbone is preserved. With traditional dentures, the bone that surrounded the tooth roots will atrophy and lose density. The titanium implants integrate with your jawbone, helping to keep the jawbone healthy.

Full mouth dental implants are more aesthetically pleasing and easier to maintain than traditional dentures. The loss of bone that results from traditional dentures leads to a collapsed, unattractive smile. Conventional dentures can also make it difficult to eat certain favorite foods. Here are a few benefits:

  • Convenience: Your replacement teeth might be placed during the same appointment as the dental implants.
  • Faster Healing: Fewer appointments and less time healing is a great benefit of full mouth dental implants.
  • Cost: Because this solution requires only four implants per arch, the treatment is much more affordable.
  • Bone Graft-Free: Two of the four implants are placed at angles in the back of the jaw to make the best use of your available jawbone. This often eliminates the need for any bone grafting.

Even with the best of diligence to maintain your oral health things don’t go as planned. Once in a while, and you might find that your teeth need to be restored or replaced. Missing, cracked, damaged, or even decayed teeth will dull your smile. Did you know it can also affect your oral health? At Inspire Dental of Alexandria we offer restorative dentistry to ensure that your teeth and oral health are back to their former state.

It is important to feel confident in your smile, because being confident in your smile means being confident in yourself. Despite this, many people walk around every day, resigned to the fact that their smile is what it is and there is really nothing they can do to change it. But what if that was not the case? What if improving the aesthetic appearance and/or functionality of your smile was easier than you thought?

Almost 50 million Americans experience tooth-loss every year. Dental bridges have traditionally been the best option if you are in this situation. However, there have been continual technological advancements regarding different types of dental implants. Dental implants are becoming both a common and popular procedure to restore a missing tooth or teeth.

A Variety of Options for Full Mouth Dental Implants

  • Bar Attachment Denture- Referred to as overdentures, this procedure involves the placing of four to six implants in the jawbone. A custom support bar following the curve of your arch connects the implants, and a denture tray with internal retention clips is then attached to this bar. This option is quite popular and can be removed for proper cleaning.
  • Ball Attachment Denture- Two implants are placed in the jawbone, a post extension is added to reach the surface onto which a denture snaps on to this extension. This option is far more stable than traditional, removable dentures but there still could be slight movement.
  • Hybrid Half-Denture/Half-Fixed- Known as a screw-retained denture, this version offers maximum stability. Placed on five or more implants and secured by screws or clasps, this denture is permanent, only removed by us. The denture does not contact your gum tissue, allowing you to also clean under it without removal.
  • Individual Implants- There is the option to have each missing tooth replaced by an individual dental implant. The benefits are superb stability, the best preservation of the jawbone available and the most natural look. However, this option is costly and time-consuming.

The Full Mouth Dental Implant Procedure

We will begin by administering a local anesthetic for total comfort during the minor surgery. Any post-operative discomfort is manageable with an over-the-counter pain medication and if other prescriptions are necessary, we will discuss them at your appointment.

When numb the dental implants, which look like tiny screws, are surgically placed into your jawbone. Depending on the jawbone density and the placement of these posts, sometimes we can even proceed on the same day. Usually, it takes some time for the implants and the jawbone to fuse, bond, or grow together to create the stability. In this case, a temporary teeth replacement option will be designed while we wait.

A second step of the procedure is to uncover the implants so we can attach extensions to the posts. Temporary healing caps, along with the connecting device method chosen to attach to the implants, completes the foundation. Your gums may need to heal for a couple of weeks following this procedure.

We will discuss with you prior to beginning the final procedure on which mounting option is in your best interests. Ball versus bar requires different steps. The connecting device that will hold your new teeth can now be tightened down on the implant.

Finally, your full mouth dental implant will be created at a dental lab and will now be attached to the anchor system we have chosen together. After a short period of time, you will experience your restored confidence in your smile and your ability to chew and speak without reservation.

We are all as unique as our fingerprints, so your case may combine different steps for the ultimate result. INSPIRE DENTAL OF ALEXANDRIA will work with you to determine the best treatment plan for you.

5 star

My family has been seeing Dr. White through more than a decade of teeth cleanings, tooth injuries, teeth grinding, cavities, caps, root canal... you name it. The office is 30 minutes away but we wouldn't consider another dentist office. It's not just that Dr. White is a great professional, it's that he and his family run a great office. Scheduling, insurance, hygienists, hours -- everything about interacting with them is first rate.Everybody is knowledgeable, thorough, and kind. They take major insurance, and have even given me advice on which options to select. ...and Dr. White is a big Nats fan, which is a bonus in my book any day.
